Oval Cut Diamonds

104 certified oval cut diamonds available

The oval is the modern favorite: brilliant-cut sparkle in an elongated silhouette that covers more of the finger per carat than a round and flatters every hand. It has been the fastest-growing engagement shape of the past decade.

Every oval balances its length-to-width ratio — 1.35 to 1.50 is the classic range — and shows some degree of 'bow-tie', a shadow across the center. A well-cut oval keeps the bow-tie faint; it is worth viewing imagery or video before purchase.

Oval Cut Diamonds: common questions

What is the ideal length-to-width ratio for an oval diamond?+

Most buyers prefer 1.35–1.50. Below 1.3 an oval reads almost round; above 1.55 it becomes dramatically elongated. There is no wrong answer — it is about proportion on your hand.

What is the bow-tie effect?+

A darker bow-tie-shaped shadow across the middle of elongated brilliant cuts. All ovals have some; poorly cut stones have obvious ones. Video or an in-person view reveals it instantly.

Do ovals look bigger than rounds?+

Yes — face-up, an oval shows roughly 10% more surface area than a round of the same carat weight, plus the elongation visually lengthens the finger.
