Marquise Cut Diamonds
Commissioned by Louis XV, the marquise is the most face-up size you can buy per carat of any classic shape — a long, eye-shaped brilliant that makes fingers look impossibly slender.
Its two points demand protective V-prongs, and its length amplifies any asymmetry, so certificate symmetry grades of Very Good or better matter. In exchange, a one-carat marquise can wear like a carat and a half.

What should I check on a marquise certificate?+
Symmetry first — the two points must align on the long axis. Then ratio: 1.85–2.10 is the classic proportion.
Does the marquise show a bow-tie?+
Like all elongated brilliants, yes to some degree. Well-cut stones keep it subtle; always view video or the stone itself.
